The universal symbol of freedom and democracy, the Statue of Liberty, is the latest icon to grace the label of Vichy Catalán natural carbonated mineral water, marking the 125th anniversary since the statue's arrival in the city of skyscrapers, sent as a gift from the French government in 1886 to celebrate the centenary of American Independence. In a few weeks, all Vichy Catalan bottles will bear the image of this Statue, which was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1984.
The new, limited edition label is divided into three clearly differentiated parts. On the left-hand side, beneath the caption "125 aniversario, Estatua de la Libertad, Nueva York", is a classic image of the statue from the waist up, highlighting her face with its classical features, her crown with its viewing windows and her outstretched arm with the torch that "enlightens the world". The bottom of the label evokes a seascape: the fusion of the Hudson river and the Atlantic Ocean with the unique Manhatten skyline in the background. The label is finished off in the centre with Vichy Catalán's characteristic seal, its historic logo at the top and the brand's international medal at the bottom.
The label is elegant and attractive, just like the female figure that inspires this symbol of freedom: with her Greek-inspired face and tunic, her crown of rays symbolising the seas and continents and the tablet of law bearing the date of the signing of the United States Declaration of Independence, in Roman numerals. For many years, the Statue of Liberty was the symbol that welcomed numerous European emigrants seeking freedom and new opportunities in America. The statue, which weighs 225 tons and is 47.50 metres high (92 metres including the pedestal) is the work of sculptor Frédéric-Auguste Bartholdi and the Famous French Engineer Gustave Eiffel, who designed the internal structure.
The label on the back of the bottle also includes a small text portraying Vichy Catalán's tribute to the 125 years since the statue arrived in New York as a "symbol that enlightens those seeking liberty, peace and equality". The back label also contains data about the analytical composition of the product, information for consumers in several languages, the corporate website address and the customer services telephone number. The word "liberty", written in several languages on the neck of the bottle, serves as the background for the identifying mark of this genuine water.
The image of the standard-bearer of liberty on the new labels for Vichy Catalan natural carbonated mineral water is used on the whole range of re-useable 1 litre, 500 ml and 250 ml catering sector bottles, as well as the 1 litre and 250 ml versions sold in shops. The image of the Statue of Liberty will also feature on the 250 ml bottle six-packs, whose boxes will bear a very similar image and composition to the label.
The Statue of Liberty is the Vichy Catalan group's latest venture into artistically embellishing the labels of its most emblematic products. In recent years, Vichy Catalan labels have paid homage to the work of internationally-renowned artists such as Dalí, Gauguin, Mozart, Gaudí and Albéniz and have also honoured great literary works such as El Quijote and El Cantar del Mío Cid.
Consuming Vichy Catalan naturally sparkling mineral water guarantees good health: several scientific studies conducted by the CSIC (Spanish Scientific Research Council) during recent years have shown that continuous consumption has beneficial effects on the health of post-menopausal women (reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease and reduces 'bad' cholesterol in blood by up to 15%). Its special mineral and medicinal properties, its unmistakable taste and its steady, proven quality over the years have made it a favourite among restaurateurs and consumers in Catalonia and Spain.
